fun embroidery dress...

so I already showed this to Doug, but I guess I best kick this blog off right and use it for what it was meant! anyways, I've been a member of the crafting forum craftster since the beginning of high school, and I absolutely LOVE it! It's a great place to get ideas and an awesome forum where you can have other people critique your work.

Well, the other day I was surfing the site and found this great idea! This girl created a very simple dress and then embroidered all of the accents, such as lapels and buttons, onto it! Very clever, and really unique! I think we might be able to incorporate this into our project somehow....

the start of a collaboration

Hello hello, this is Grace DuVal and Anne Douglas here, introducing our new blog! We just received a 2009-2010 VCU Undergraduate Research Grant and have decided to create a blog where we can swap ideas and share our progress. We'll each be updating here periodically with any inspiration we find, sketches or designs we create, and eventually our finished collection!
Below is a description of our project:

“Eco-Chic: Recycled Fashion In this collaborative project, a Sculpture + Extended Media and a Craft/Material Studies student, marry their love affair with fabric. The central theme of this project will be to take pre-existing fabrics such as curtains, upholstery or sheets from second-hand shops and transform them into new and original fabrics which will then be used to create a collection of one-of-a-kind clothing. The fabric and garment design will be inspired by the aesthetic of antique furniture. Varying dye techniques will be used, as will embellishing with embroidery, beading and buttons. A series of unique garments will be created drawing inspiration from the lines and shapes of intricate furniture.

Anne Douglas Shaw, Craft/Material Studies

Stay tuned as our project takes flight!
